A Community Divided

A Community Divided

Passage: 1 Kings 12:1-24

Speaker: Dr. Steven Laufer

Series: Faces of Community

Category: Sunday Sermons

Keywords: division, faithfulness, manipulation, peace

As affluence settled in to the Israelite community under King Solomon, challenges started to arise that Israel hadn’t dealt with before. The peace that David had instituted began to erode as Israelite took advantage of Israelite as the wealthy and powerful misused the working class. The religious unity of David’s time also began to falter under the numerous pagan influences brought into influence by Solomon’s wives. In the end, instead of seeing these deficits and returning to a place of unity and mutual benefit, the nation plowed ahead into a fracture that would last for centuries. The nation unified became a Kingdom Divided. (1 Kgs 12:1–24)
