My hometown: Dothan, Alabama

My family: Married to Kay since January 1976; 2 sons, Landon (Angela) in Little Elm, Texas; Logan (Christy) in Little Rock, Arkansas; 1 granddaughter, Ellie (born 2007) one grandson, Levi (born 2011)

I accepted Christ: When I was 9 years old in my bedroom, while talking with my mother.

My favorite character in the Bible is: Jesus, because he was so comfortable in his own skin, which he didn’t even have to be in.

The verse that is speaking to me now is:  2 Cor 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

On my iPod: The timeless sounds of James Taylor and the contemporary sounds of Brandon Heath

I’m excited about: How God is re-shaping and spiritually forming me even at the ancient age of 60+, as I’m learning to practice new disciplines of the faith, and relearning the old ones too.

In my free time: I love to play golf; and some day, I’m going to actually play it well. I love music, too, and sometimes I even love working in the yard. I like to write when someone else asks me.

Three people I would want to have a meal with: If the meal was good, I’d like to have it with anybody. But if you mean 3 people I’d like to meet, I’d say Amy Grant, Pres. Barack Obama, and Eugene Peterson

My education: I have a Bachelors Degree from Samford University, Birmingham, AL, and a Masters in Religious Education from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, KY 1974 (Not the same place as Southern Baptist Theological Seminary 2011).

What I like about ubc: I love that it’s a place of diverse thinking and a place that is open to diversity in many aspects of life.

The team I root for is: The Alabama Crimson Tide, the Atlanta Braves, and the Houston Texans

My proudest moment is: Two - When my son Landon married Angela, and when my son Logan and his wife Christy adopted Levi

My pet peeve is: Having more pet peeves than I can list

My perfect day would be: 18 holes of golf on Pebble Beach with my two sons, an afternoon of playing with Ellie and Levi, topped off with dinner in the Lodge with my wife, our sons and their wives

My favorite childhood memory is: Spending summer vacations in Vermont with my Aunt Bill and Uncle Ron

If I could do it all over again, I’d: Probably do pretty much the same thing. No regrets.

My favorite food is: Char-grilled hamburgers

Random life trivia: I can play music by blowing air into my closed hands; I know about 27 chords on the guitar; and I’ve written (made-up) 40 or 50 songs. I’m from the Peanut Capital of the World, and I used to live in Nashville, Tennessee. I was president of the Music City Chapter of the National Association of Business Administrators. I met Kay in Bowling Green, KY, and she was my recreation intern (she got an A). I’m the most intense, laid-back person you’ll ever meet. I’ve been in Texas for 18+ years, I may die here and be buried here, but I’ll never be a Texan. (Sorry.) If I could live anywhere in the world, it would be in Middle Tennessee.
