Jeff Waldo

jeff-waldo-casualMy hometown: Irving, TX; Conroe, TX; and now, Clear Lake, TX

My family: Shelley and I were married in 1990. Weston, our oldest son, is finishing his undergraduate work at Texas Tech University. Skyler, our second son, is finishing up at Clear Lake High School. Summer and George, our rescue beagles, are an active part of the family, too.

I accepted Christ: and was baptized in May 1969 after speaking with my parents about a Sunday School lesson on the inauguration of the ministry of Jesus. My parents helped me understand what God was doing in my life at that time and taught me about the importance of baptism as the public profession of my decision and how to grow in this new relationship with Christ.

My favorite character in the Bible is: I don’t have a favorite, but Zechariah and Mephibosheth come to mind

The verse that is speaking to me now is: 1 Corinthians 13:12 — "For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known."

On my iPod:  Bach, Mahler, Wagner, Horowitz

I’m excited about: Talking graduate school options with Weston, watching Skyler play baseball, and planning family get-aways with Shelley

In my free time, I: Cook (and eat), read, travel, play piano, write, and root for Clear Lake High baseball teams

Three people I would want to have a meal with: Only three? For starters, Thomas Jefferson, Arturo Toscanini, Andrew Fuller

My education: B.A. – Baylor University; M.Div. – Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary; M.S. – University of Houston at Clear Lake

What I like about ubc: Is how the church embraces ministry opportunities

What I’m reading: Winesburg, Ohio (Sherwood Anderson), Tracks of a Fellow Struggler (John Claypool), My Life in France (Julia Child), Augustine and the Jews (Paula Fredriksen), If the Church Were Christian (Philip Gulley), Fern-seed and Elephants (C. S. Lewis), How (Not) to Speak of God (Peter Rollins), I Believe (Helmut Thielicke)

The team I root for is: The teams on which my sons play

My perfect day would be: La Rive Gauche wandering with Shelley after the Musée d'Orsay and before a concert at Saint-Sulpice

If I could do it all over again, I’d: Study abroad as an undergraduate rather than wait to study abroad in graduate school

My favorite food is: Depends on the location.  불고기 (Bulgogi) in Korea; Bruschetta and Gelato in Italy; Curry (Bhuna or Tikka Masala) in the UK; Crepes of any kind in France; BBQ in Texas; and Thai anywhere

My favorite TV show is: Who has time for TV?

My favorite movie is: Lawrence of Arabia

My favorite book is: Alas, it would be to ask which of my children is my favorite child

My favorite quote is: Never allow school to get in the way of your education

If I could, I would: Train in molecular gastronomy with Hervé This and José André

My favorite UBC moment: Crisis Pregnancy Center Parent Child Dedication

Random life trivia: After living in Seoul, Korea for a couple of years, the train ride home via Beijing to Helsinki during the communist era was a great ride.
