As part of a TBM (Texas Baptist Men) Disaster Relief team working after Hurricane Isaac visited Belle Chase, Louisiana, I heard about the rescue of a family of young parents and two very young children. And the story-behind-the-story is one of God’s amazing protection for them.

The family had heard the call to evacuate “now” and they were ready to go within about 30 minutes, but that was too late. The water had risen six feet during that time and they were trapped inside the house. The young father acted quickly by turning a freezer upside down and putting his family inside. The freezer floated as he steadied it and kept it from turning over in the rising water. When the water pushed them to the ceiling, the young man cut a hole through the roof and helped the wife and children climb onto the rooftop. There they prayed.

In the meantime, searchers in an airboat were praying for guidance as the looked for victims. A ray of light broke through the dark clouds and shone directly onto the freezer on the roof with the little family huddled in it. As the family saw their rescuers, they fell to their knees to give thanks to the Lord for guiding their rescuers to find them.

We praise God for His protection of safety for this family and the team who rescued them.
