“This was the best week ever!” exclaimed Zach Simmons, KJOY camper. Preschool’s missions camp, June 25-28, brought 12 Kindergarteners learning to serve Jesus first, Others second, Yourself last.
Each day, a Bible lesson was taught by KJOY leaders Laura Ozinga and Kymberlee Ward and discussion of how we could apply that lesson to others.
- Our week began by harvesting 46 pounds of fresh vegetables in the Walden Community Garden. We donated the fresh vegetables and other non-perishable foods to the Clear Lake Food Pantry.
- We fought the heat and planted flowers and plants along the UBC Welcome Center and east foyer.
- KJOY campers made gifts of appreciation to the UBC staff and our local volunteer firefighters where we also received a tour of the fire station.
- Rosemont Assisted Living residents enjoyed making suncatcher crafts with our kids and engaged in sweet conversations about their families, their lives and Jesus.
- Our campers also assembled care packages for homeless or needy people that they may encounter along street corners or intersections.
- On the final day of KJOY, the children “served themselves last” by getting a behind-the-scenes tour at the Aquarium restaurant in Kemah and having lunch, ice cream and playtime at McDonald’s.
KJOY is all about giving the children an opportunity to do hands-on mission work. “It was nice to see my son getting pleasure from helping others and not expect anything in return,” said Wyatt Bresnik’s mom, Rebecca.
